2013

We wish our dear followers a happy & prosperous New-Year

''I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.

So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, I had a truly merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't the rice or chicken or cake.  Neither was it the outings nor parties nor music.....it was all because I did something I had never done before....*Big smile*

I had planned to do a little something for kids in the orphanage during the holidays but it seemed like my plan wouldn't work out because my car was acting up and I couldn't go to the market to get gifts for these kids :(. As God would have it, on the eve of christmas, my cousin told me her friends and herself had bought gifts to give orphaned kids on christmas day.  I was super excited and volunteered to join the charity group.  We spent the night sorting out the christmas gifts and wrapping them up till midnight.

So on christmas day, four of us set out to Ajah and we did it!!!!!!! It was a great experience for us and we had fun. I even learnt to how to dance 'Kukere' and I've been dancing it all day (Thanks to the kids).  So I thought I should share a photos of my day..............

NUDE

Lets talk about my favourite colour (for this week) -NUDE!!!!!!

Nude is not one colour but a range of colours similar to skin tones. It’s a common description of the shade a little darker than champagne, lighter than sand and perhaps with a hint of blush or peach (confusing right!!!).
Another way to examine nudes is to compare them to typical foundation colours

e

This chart  shows the transition from dark to light skin tones.

I most especially love nude shoes. They match easily with other pieces and subtly stand out with any outfit. They will calm down your "craziest" outfit, but also point out your favorite one (as you surely don't want someone to look at shoes instead of outfit, especially when you spent hours dressing up!) One important factor to keep in mind when shopping for nude shoes is to select a color closet to your natural skin tone. Nude shoes that blend perfectly with your skin tone also help to make vertically challenged ladies(like me) look taller..

Boardroom chick

I bet everyone has heard the phrase "dress for success" at some point in time.

You cannot de-emphasize the importance of looking good at work. Not only does it improve your professionalism, it also boosts your self confidence and increased self confidence makes a good impression at all times.  If you are an entrepreneur, a teacher, banker, civil servant, lawyer or if you work where I work, please DRESS FOR SUCCESS at all times.

So I'm not gonna bore you with too much stories, the message is clear. I'd just share a few tips (as always) on work essentials that are stylish, pocket-friendly and professional.

1. Essential bottoms

Please stock your wardrobe with essentials - Pencil skirt, a pair of straight or flared trousers and ofcourse, the all important black dress. (Not too short ooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2. Blazer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can rock one blazer at work or at play. (Read post on blazers please)

3. Essential colors

Black, navy blue, brown and grey.  Get yourself a grey/black bottoms and black blazer. Navy blue blazers rock on khaki colored or grey bottoms.

4. Essential tops

Get yourself chiffon blouses in all colors and patterns (but not too busy patterns please). You want to look modern, chic and professional at the same time.  Also invest in some work shirts - TM shirts are available almost everywhere, get a few (Please check twice as nice - They are currently on sales)

5. Accessorize
Accessories are great but please don't over do it, you are not going for a party.

6. You'll find great deals shopping with NEFERTIT FASHION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why we love....Lanre 'Elle' Ajayi

So I am dedicating this post to one of my best friends and Nefertiti's personal shopper Lanre Ajayi aka 'Elle'. My dear friend didn't want the publicity but after loads of pretty pleases and persistent reminders, she finally gave in and sent me a few pictures.

I've known Lanre for over 10 years and I have always admired her style.  Her style is effortlessly chic and classy.  If I could compare her style to a celebrity's, it would probably be Solange knowles or any of the sex and city gals Charlotte, Carrie or Miranda.  So when I thought about Nefertiti and shopping for clothings and accessories, I called on Lanre for some fashpiration.  Just like most power dressers, she loves vintage pieces and believes every woman must have one or two in her wardrobe.

Elle gives Nefertiti fans 5 free fashion tips:

1.  Get a vintage piece - Vintage pieces have become more popular.  Even Beyonce collects vintage chanel pieces.

2. Heels - God bless whoever invented heels. They've never been out of fashion

3. Accessorise - The easiest and 'pocket friendliest' way to transform an outfit from plain to fab is with statement pieces

4. Accentuate your waistline - Peplum dresses/ blouses, flared pants, high waisted trousers, shorts or skirts accentuate your waistline and give you that slim chic look.

5. Be comfortable in your clothes - You don't want to tug, tuck or shove any part of your body or clothes when you are out. Put on clothes you feel comfortable in.

Timeless fashion

Trends come and go.That's just how fashion has been from the days of old. From 3/4 pants to plazzo trousers to dresses to leggings. But despite these changes, there are certain pieces have stood the test of time. Here's a list of some of classics J

1.Jeans

The cut of the trousers may change, but the fabric is still the same.  They are perfect for casual outings. They help to give you a laid back, fun loving look. My favourite cut is the straight jeans, they are just yummy J and look good on most body shapes. They might not be suitable for ladies with extreme yams(beware!!). Recently, denim  jackets have re-entered the scene. They pair amazingly well with bright colours and bold prints.

2. LBD

I know you have probably heard this a thousand times. So,I will try not overflog the issue. The fact is the LBD is a must have in every wardrobe. Whether for work days, going out with friends during the weekend or going to church on sundays. Even if you have not worn your LBD and you dust it off after a few years, it will still look nice.#fact

3. Polo shirts

If you ask me, I will say the cave men wore polo-shirts(lol). They have been around "FOREVER".They are not only fashionable, they are also comfortable. If you would like a polo shirt for office or casual wear, opt for silk or cotton made shirts. These are not very expensive but they do offer a smooth and shiny appearance which makes them great for office and casual wear. Silk and cotton made polo shirts offer a higher level of comfort but you do need to know that they stain easier and faster than other materials. As with almost everything, quality is important when purchasing polo shirts.

4. Pearls

This accessory is great for both day and night and will never go out of style. For a more casual look, you could try a layered setting and for work, a single strand choker will be perfect for work.

5. Crisp white blouse

This peice of clothing, does not get the accolade it deseves. They are easy to combine with other peieces and give you a ''look''. It doesn't have to be a button-down, you could try tees or tunics. The general effect is the same. For an extra Oomph!, you can match with bright coloured accessories.

6. Tailored blazer

We did a post on blazers last week J. Need we say more

7. Black trousers

They come in different cuts and styles. No matter the ocassion, you can always rock your black trousers. It is very easy to combine with other pieces. When you think that you have nothing to wear, you can always count on your black trousers. They are a staple for every working girl.

Feel free to mix and match these pieces for optimal results.

The miracle in your wardrobe - Blazers!!!

Blazers are the new tees and your wardrobe is incomplete without a blazer.  They are fashion staples and are here to stay.
This wonderful fashion creation is totally versatile and can transform any outfit to knock-out classy.  They are great for adding structure to a boxy silhouette, toning down busy patterns and guess what???, a simple blazer can be converted to an office wear too. *Woohoo* So bye bye “Gosh what do I wear?” and Hello mix and match. J
Here are a few celebrity inspired ways to wear your blazer:

1.                   With a pair of jeans/leggings

Make a bold statement with a bright coloured blazer
This look is great for a day trip or movie night.  Try on the look with a scarf and heels or just light fashion accessories and flats.

2.         With a pair of shorts

This look is great for a night out in town or lunch date with friends.

3.                   With a short dress

I love this look because it is extremely classy and versatile.  So whether it is a club party, house party, drinks with friends, church etcetera, this look totally nails it.

4.         With a maxi dress

Always remember, the taller you are, the better the look on you. So if you are petite like me, the look may
drown you. But you can pair this outfit up with wedges if you are an absolute die hard like me J

5.                   With bold patterns

This look rocks!!!  A blazer tones down the busy patterns of the dress/top and adds maturity to what would otherwise have been a playful/youthful outfit.  Totally works for a day trip

6.

6.           With pencil skirts or work pants

I personally love this look for work days.  Paired with blouses or shirts, the look hits boardroom chic during office hours and classy chic when out for drinks with friends.

7.          And unless you are Rihanna, don't try this look on please.
